BIM Uptake – Percolating Deep within Construction Project Ecosystem

Posted by: | Posted on:

BIM is widely misunderstood to be a software or tool. Firstly we need to shed this misconception and embrace BIM as a process – a process that refers to ‘digitization of the built environment’. Once we embrace this concept the adoption and implementation of BIM becomes easier.

Building Information Modeling

BIM implementation can help procure a wide range of benefits including:

  • Pre construction planning for lean and efficient construction
  • Improved collaboration and coordination amongst teams and professionals
  • Effective handling of ‘what if’ scenarios and risk mitigation
  • Tendering and Bidding support via accurate quantity take offs and cost estimations
  • Complete Building design and construction documentation for facility maintenance, operation, repair and renovation work

Secondly, For BIM to be used actively across the process of building design and construction, it is important that it percolates deep within the construction project ecosystem.

For this to happen, it is important that Building Information Modeling reaches down to every individual and every professional working for various disciplines and phases like building design, preconstruction planning, construction scheduling, energy efficiency and sustainability, quantity takeoffs and cost planning, facility management, pre-fabrication etc.

BIM needs to be extended as a value proposition not just to AEC firms and businesses but also to individual professionals. These include

  • Architects
  • Engineers
  • Contractors& Sub contractors
  • Quantity surveyors & cost estimators
  • Facility managers
  • Fabricators
  • Building product manufacturers

Another factor that majorly hinders BIM adoption and is the reason of reluctance amongst firms is – Lack of BIM understanding and training. If you want to have an in-house team working on BIM- it is of utmost importance to train your professionals to use tools and technologies that allow digitization of the construction environment and allow digital viewing. However- until then the best option is to Outsource.

Offshore BIM service providers are not outsiders anymore

Today, in the age of mobility and advanced connectivity, outsourcing, or working from remote locations is no more a new concept. BIM service providers like Hi-Tech work in close conjunction with the client, and do handholding till the mission specific goals are achieved. Large projects are handled with utmost care as we deliver intelligent information rich BIM models, however niche projects for small and mid size businesses and professionals are nimbly executed to ensure, that these clients derive the maximum value and best ROI.
